The state of the Alps huts

The alpine clubs publish each hut's availability but never the whole picture. Here it is: how full the huts really are, which nights are contested, which club runs tightest. Free to reuse under CC BY.

661 huts observed
36,646 hut-nights measured
23.6% already fully booked

As measured on 11 September 2026, over the following 120 nights. A closed hut does not count as fully booked.

The most contested nights

Share of the observed huts that are fully booked that night, across the whole Alps. 90% of the ten tightest nights fall on a weekend.

How this is measured — and what it does not say. Only nights actually observed are counted: a closed hut is not fully booked, it is shut. This is a snapshot of today's booking state over the next 120 nights, not a season average. 46 huts report full across the entire window and are left out of the ranking: that almost always means they take no online booking, not that they are the most sought-after. We deliberately say nothing about cancellation rates here — those need a long, evenly spaced observation window, or you end up measuring your own polling schedule.
