How HutVigil works

What this is

HutVigil watches the availability of alpine huts. The numbers come from the public data of the official booking systems: hut-reservation.org, which covers the SAC, DAV, ÖAV and AVS huts across Switzerland, Austria, Germany and South Tyrol, and the Chamonix engine behind the Cosmiques and Charpoua refuges. We put all of it on one screen and send an email when a bed frees up somewhere you care about.

What this is not

A booking site. Reservations happen on the official platforms — every hut page here links to the right one — and no money passes through HutVigil at any point. We have no connection to any alpine club.

How often

The flagship huts, meaning the stages of the seven routes plus the houses people search for most, are checked every 30 minutes. The remaining ~700 get a pass every couple of hours. The pace is deliberately gentle on the platforms, and every request identifies itself.

The route alert

This is the part the booking platforms don't do. A traverse needs a bed in a different hut every night, all in a row. HutVigil watches the whole chain and emails you the day a complete window opens. The email also lists the stages we can't track, so you know which ones to book yourself.

Data accuracy

A bed shown free here can already be taken on the official site by the time you get there — anything can happen between two checks, and every page says how old its numbers are. If a platform asks us to stop reading its data, we will.
